The European University Centre at Peking University held its annual Council meeting 22 March at Peking University. The meeting started with a welcome address from Professor Zhou Qifeng, President of Peking University. President Zhou expressed his belief that the Centre has developed into an important platform for cooperation in education and research between the European universities in the Centre and Peking University.

A renewal of the Agreement between the Centre and Peking University was signed and Professor Goran Bexell was re-elected as Chairman of the Board for a new two year period. Uppsala University was welcomed as a new member of the Centre.  During the Council meeting several important issues on how to further develop the Centre and expand its activities were discussed. It was decided to continue to develop cooperation in research in the fields of environmental issues, public health and social welfare, and politics and law, where several concrete ideas on activities will be implemented during the coming year. A new edition of the course in European Studies will be given at Peking University during the autumn 2011.

In connection with the Council meeting, the Centre on March 21st organised a symposium on the topic “Social Welfare Developments in China and Europe – and the meaning of ‘inclusive growth’ as policy strategies in Europe and China”, with speakers from Peking University and the European member universities.

INWEB Coordinator Prof. J. Ganoulis represented Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which is a member university.
